How do I stop being jealous of my friend’s singing voice and appreciate mine?

My friend has a big, strong, singing voice and is always compared to Beyonce. I, on the other hand, have a softer voice, and I’m always being compared to Corrine Bailey Ray. I know that both women are great singers, but when it comes down to it, most people think that all good singers should sound like Beyonce. Is that true? And should I try to change my voice or just accept it the way it is? I just feel like sometimes, bigger is better.

No… music is not about who can be technically perfect. It is about who can reach into their soul, and pull out what will move others. I would not buy a Beyonce anything… she is too commercial. I find that the best musicians are those that bring me to a new level. No commercially promoted singers have this, in my opinion. Find your own style, and sing your heart out, girl!!!

You could ask her how she does that. So she could help you sing like her too. Or you’ll practice more and get better at it.

You should love and accept your voice. If you are compared to Corrine Bailey Ray, you ought to be proud. She is a great singer. Not all good singers have to sound like Beyonce. Some famous great singers sound completely unlike Beyonce, but yet people love them.

I had this problem too! My friend is an amazing broadway type singer and I was more of the quiet and shy type. I think the most importamimportants to stop worrying about your friends voice and start worrying about your own. Take voice lessons. I did so and I felt a lot more confident about my voice. I think your voices are just not very comparable. BIGGER IS DEFINETELY NOT ALWAYS BETTER!
