There are over 6.5 billion people on Earth right now. Let's say that you know less than 1% of the world's population. Now don't you feel silly comparing yourself to certain people?

There are many people who are homeless, deal with drug abuse, suffer from cancer, lost a body part, etc...and would give anything to have the same quality of life that you have right now.
References :
Yes, that happens to me too. I compare myself to my friends all the time and I get jealous of their abilities. You know how I cope with this? My friends tells me things that they don't show to the public eye all the time. They have their own faults and low self esteem times too. They sometime tells me that they are jealous of me! The people you compare yourself to, and is jealous of, they are not what they appear to be. They may have a lot of issues inside themselves that you don't know of. Don't always judge people for their appearance, look deeper and you'll see faults, not everybody's perfect you know. Why don't you stop comparing yourself so much? And don't give me excuses to why you can't stop. I don't care. If you care enough about yourself, then there would be nothing that can stop you from loving yourself. I bet you have a lot of skills that not many people have. This is a great way I learned from a book I'm reading to increase self esteem. First you write down all the negative things about yourself onto toilet paper. After you finished your list, you flush it down the toilet. Then you write down all the good things about yourself onto a sheet of writing paper then tape it up next to your mirror. You'll see it each day to remind yourself about things you love about yourself. Whether it's your courage, loyalty, hair, or eyes, or whatever, you'll be reminded everyday. Remember, all the negative things you flushed down the toilet is to remind you that you can forget about those things.
References :
I had very low self-esteem. What I did about it was do the very best I could at what I was good at, such as scholastics, electronics, martial arts, Spanish, languages in general, went to Italy in 1990, France in '91, I ride my bicycle and people seem to admire that; I took a semester in several different languages, took a year and a half worth of dance lessons, ran 2 BBS's, learned to type fast, developed my general knowledge, got my black belt, learned to overhaul Volkswagon engines, learned all about psychology, studied some ancient history, learned how to play chess online, got good at DOOM, learned guitar and piano, and these days I'm into microcontrollers. So I can feel proud about myself, even tho I'm fat and goofy looking, and am rejected in bars and nightclubs. I'm a nerd, see. But I have two houses and a Firebird. So people who judge by outward appearances--screw them. I'm smarter than they are, better educated, and make more money. Oh and by the way, I studied hard and graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree Summa Cum Laude.

And now I don't feel so inferior. I'm liked and accepted at work. Also respected.

Oh also, I was always terrible at sports. Oh yea, I got certified in Scuba diving.

Be all you can be. Improve yourself. Out-do others in what you're good at. Volunteer work can also make you feel really good about yourself.
References :
My life.
